When I painted Celestial Bloom, I wanted the eye to feel protected by the entire design around it, almost as though it were blooming out of the night sky.
I started with the large blue eye because I wanted it to be the strongest focal point. I used bright blues and turquoise in the iris so it would hold its own against the very dark navy background. The white around the iris gives the eye clarity, while the darker outline helps it stay strong inside all the surrounding detail.
The layered petals became the next major part of the composition. I used blue and purple because I wanted them to feel connected to both flowers and celestial shapes. Their placement around the eye gives the painting a sense of symmetry and makes the eye feel almost like the center of a blooming lotus.
Gold became an important connecting color. I used it around the petals, moon, hanging ornaments, and smaller accents. Against the dark blue background, those gold lines create warmth and help separate the many cool colors without making the painting feel too busy.
The crescent moon in the upper corner gave the painting its strongest celestial symbol. I wanted it to glow brightly enough to balance the large eye without competing with it. I added hanging crystal ornaments nearby so the upper part of the painting would feel active and magical rather than empty.
The flowers and crystal clusters near the bottom were my way of grounding the painting. The eye and moon are symbolic and celestial, but the leaves, blossoms, and crystals give them a place to exist. I especially liked combining the blue and violet crystals with the teal foliage because those colors repeat throughout the entire painting.
Working on a 5 × 7 painting means every detail has to earn its place. There is not much room to hide a shape that is too large or a color that does not belong. I had to keep checking that the eye remained the main focus even as I added petals, flowers, vines, stars, crystals, and gold accents.
To me, Celestial Bloom represents protection and growth happening at the same time. The protective eye suggests awareness and strength, while the flowers and petals suggest becoming, unfolding, and continuing forward.
This piece is part of my Evil Eye Collection, and I wanted it to have its own personality rather than feeling like a repeat of the earlier paintings. Celestial Bloom feels brighter, more floral, and a little more celebratory than the others.

My hope is that this painting brings its future owner a feeling of protection, positive energy, and the reminder that growth can still be beautiful even when it happens slowly.
