When I painted Celestial Guardian, I wanted the eye to feel powerful, protective, and calm.
The eye became the clear center of the painting. I used bright turquoise and layered blues in the iris so it would stand forward from the darker background. The black pupil gives the eye strength, while the small white highlight keeps it feeling alive and reflective.
I surrounded the eye with layered ornamental petals because I wanted it to feel almost like it was being held inside a celestial crown. The repeating shapes gave me a way to build symmetry while still using different shades of blue, teal, and turquoise.
Gold became an important accent throughout the painting. I used it around the eye, inside the petals, across the stars, and around the hanging crystal drops. Those small warm details helped break up the cool blue palette and gave the painting the feeling of a decorated protective talisman.
The crescent moon and large star near the top helped establish the celestial theme. I added smaller stars and sweeping marks throughout the background so the space would feel active without becoming overcrowded.
The hanging drops beneath the eye were designed to resemble small blue crystals or pieces of captured water. I wanted them to feel luminous, so I used deeper blue around the edges and lighter turquoise and white toward the centers.
I kept the foliage near the bottom simple and decorative. The curved branches help frame the eye and lead the viewer’s attention back toward the center. Their turquoise color also connects them to the iris and crystal drops.
One of the challenges with this painting was working at the smaller 5 × 7 size. The decorative shapes, gold dots, stars, and crystal details all needed to remain clear without becoming too heavy. I chose not to fill every possible space because the eye needed room to remain the main focus.
The protective eye symbol can represent awareness, intuition, and protection from negative energy. I liked combining that symbolism with moons, stars, crystals, and leaves to create something that felt personal and magical rather than traditional.
This painting is brighter and more graphic than many of my forest landscapes, but it still uses the turquoise, blue, celestial light, and fantasy details that continue to appear throughout my work.
I completed Celestial Guardian in August 2026, and it became GS-0033 in my permanent Gale’s Art Studio inventory.
My hope is that this painting brings a feeling of protection, confidence, and positive energy to the person who chooses to make it part of their home.
