One of the things I love most about forests is that they constantly remind us that endings are often the beginning of something new.
When I painted Forest Stump Sanctuary, I wanted to celebrate that idea. At first glance, the old tree stump tells the story of something that has come to an end. But look a little closer, and you'll see fresh moss spreading across the wood, tiny wildflowers blooming nearby, and the quiet forest continuing to thrive around it. Nature has a remarkable way of transforming what seems forgotten into something beautiful again.
The turquoise sky and soft woodland mist became an important part of the painting's mood. Instead of creating a dark forest, I wanted this clearing to feel peaceful and welcoming—a place where you could stop for a while, breathe deeply, and appreciate the quiet sounds of the woods. The drifting white specks add a touch of mystery, leaving it up to each viewer to decide whether they're falling seeds, tiny forest spirits, or simply sunlight catching the air.
Painting has become an important part of my own recovery journey, and this piece reflects something I've experienced personally: growth doesn't always happen all at once. Sometimes it happens quietly, little by little, until one day you realize you've become something stronger than before. That's the feeling I hoped to capture in Forest Stump Sanctuary.
Every painting I create is hand-painted in gouache, one brushstroke at a time, with the hope that it brings peace, hope, and imagination into someone's home.
Thank you for visiting Gale's Art Studio. I hope Forest Stump Sanctuary reminds you that beauty can grow from even the oldest roots.
